On Friday 5th March, Thailand celebrated National Journalist Day and here in Pattaya, the local Journalists decided to make merit on this day by providing food and provisions to the Karunyawet Home for Disabled Women in Banglamung. Leading the delegation of Journalists was Khun Farooq a City Councilor. Later on Friday, a party will be held in Jomtien hosted by Chonburi Immigration. |

On Thursday Evening, Police received disturbing news of a suspected suicide of one of their fellow officers in the Police Residential Block located next to Pattaya Police Station on Pattaya Beach. The assigned Investigating Officer was Police Lieutenant Colonel Samlan who was joined by Forensic Police Officers from Chonburi Police Headquarters. Inside the room, on the bed, was the body of Police Senior Sergeant Major Suporn aged 48. He had sustained a single gun shot wound to his left chest which is though to have been self administered. On Thursday we joined Police Lieutenant Colonel Panomprie, the Deputy Superintendant of Chonburi Immigration based in Jomtien as he visited a number of Hotels and Guest Houses around Pattaya to ensure they are conforming to Immigration Regulations which state that foreign patrons must complete registration forms which must be sent to the Immigration Office within 24 hours of them checking-in. The Hotel and Guest House Owners were told to conform to the regulations or face stiff penalties including fines of up to 8,000 Baht should they not submit copies of the registration forms within the allotted time. Just after 2am on Wednesday in Soi Loylang in North Pattaya, Fire Rescue Units rushed to the scene of a major house fire which had completely engulfed the property. Khun Janpen, aged 37, the owner of the house and three other occupants, including her Children, were able to escape unharmed. She revealed that everyone was sleeping when the fire began on the ground floor. The intense heat of the fire caused everyone to wake up. Luckily everyone was able to escape. Firefighters took just over one hour to control the flames which completely gutted the house. Around 2 Million Baht’s worth of damage was caused by the fire which Investigators believe was started by an electric short circuit in the Kitchen. |

On Tuesday Night, and following on from their operation the night before, Police Major Arun, the Inspector-in-charge of the Pattaya Tourist Police Station led a team of Tourist Police Officers on a further clean-up operation on Pattaya Beach Road and Pattaya Second Road. This time, the officers were on the hunt for illegal street beggars, many of which are known to be illegal immigrants. The operation led to the arrest of 17 people, which included 8 children. The majority of the arrestees were Cambodian Nationals who are thought to have illegally crossed the border at Aranya-pratet in Satgeow Province, which is known as an easy border to cross for illegal aliens. The Cambodians are expected to be deported but will likely return to Thailand the next day, the rest paid a small fine and were later released. |

Belgium Tourist involved in near-drowning incident on Jomtien Beach. |

On Tuesday Afternoon on Jomtien Beach in front of the Grand Jomtien Hotel, an emergency situation occurred involving a tourist from Belgium, Mr. Raymond Gevaert aged 75. An unusual current caused him to be swept out to sea but he was rescued by a fellow beachgoer. Mr. Gevaert, who was at the beach with his Wife, had swallowed sea water and was in a serious condition and required manual ventilation by a nurse who arrived in a Pattaya Memorial Hospital Ambulance. We understand that Mr. Gevaert is now recovering in Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery according to Doctors.
