Accident kills one man

In the early hours of Friday morning police and rescue services were called to the scene of a fatal accident which had taken place along the road running alongside the railway tracks near Soi Kow Noi in the East of Pattaya.

            The accident involved two motorbikes which had collided. The deceased man, aged 60, was thrown from his bike when it was rear-ended by a motorbike ridden by an 18-year-old Thai male who suffered only minor cuts and abrasions. The teenager claimed the victim had overtaken him at speed just prior to the accident and then slowed down, leading to a collision. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, but did have a Buddhist amulet around his neck, was probably killed instantly when his head came into contact with the unforgiving

Press conference announces 6th Pattaya Country Music competition.

On Wednesday a press conference conducted at City Hall and chaired by Khun Wirawat, a deputy mayor and Khun Boongiet, the managing director of VC Spot Productions, announced the forthcoming 6th Pattaya Country Music Competition. Although there have already been 107 entries, the numbers will be reduced by a panel of judges to just eight finalists. The public part of the competition will commence on 14th March at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach where the competitors get a chance to showcase their talents before the general public. Riot Training for Pattaya Police.

Following orders from the Provincial Police Commander, Pattaya Police took part in a riot training exercise on Tuesday in preparation for possible disturbances involving Pro-Thaksin Red Shirt Protesters here in Pattaya. Although demonstrations are expected to take place mainly in the Bangkok area, the Police Commissioner has asked for the additional training. Members of the public assisted in the exercise which was supposed to simulate a riot. It was not the most realistic of exercises that we have ever seen and the officers involved

Suspicious activities by Monk caught collecting money in Soi Kow Tha Low.

On Tuesday, Nongprue Municipal Security Officers received a report of a Monk and two other men collecting money on behalf of a Temple located in Buri Ram Province. The Monk was located in Soi Kow Tha Low. He was accompanied by two men, Khun Sitishai aged 34 and Khun Chachawan aged 18. The monk’s papers were checked and there appeared to be an irregularity with the document in relation to the picture of the monk and the officials claimed that the document had been tampered with in some way. Checks were made and the monk was found to be genuine and resides in a Temple in Nakom Panom Province in the North-East of Thailand. However he had not reported to his superiors that he had left the temple. As a precaution the money collected for the temple in Buri Rum

Motorbike Taxi Driver arrested following Necklace Snatch in East Pattaya.

On Tuesday, Police and Volunteers were called to Soi 12 off the Siam Country Club Road following reports of a necklace snatch. At the scene, they were met by the victim of the snatch, Khun Sarort aged 40. He was in possession of half of a 3 Baht-weighted gold necklace worth around 55,000 Baht. He explained to Police that as he was walking along the street, a Thai Man pulled up on a motorbike and attempted to snatch his gold necklace. In the ensuing struggle, the suspect fell off his bike and ended up snapping the necklace and running away with half of it into a nearby housing estate. After an extensive search of the village by Police and Volunteers, the suspect, Khun Supat aged 28, a motorbike taxi driver  based in Naklua, was found hiding in house number 210/31. Tourist Police reassure Tourists on Walking Street.

On Tuesday Night, Police Major Arun, the Inspector-in-charge of Pattaya’s Tourist Police Division went to Walking Street to speak with Tourists and reassure them that the upcoming political protests in Bangkok should not affect their stay here in Pattaya. The Major spoke with a number of Tourists and presented them with leaflets which indicated the Emergency Number of the Tourist Police which is 1155 and the leaflet also contained a number of other essential numbers. The majority of Tourists seemed unconcerned with the protests which are expected to take place in Bangkok between 12th and 14th March and feel safe here in Pattaya. Many thanked the Tourist Police for having a presence on Walking Street and also

One dead and two seriously injured following Pattaya road crash.

On Tuesday Afternoon, Police and Rescue Services were called to the Sukumvit Road in Jomtien to deal with a fatal road accident involving an 18 Wheel Truck and a pick-up. The truck was carrying a load of cement pylons which were placed in a way in which the ends of the pylon were hanging over the end of the truck and there was nothing attached to the end of them to indicate this was the case. The driver of the truck, Khun Prichar aged 40, remained at the scene and explained that he had slowed down to make a u-turn back to Pattaya with the intention of delivering his load to the Laem Chabang Port. He felt a sharp jolt and realized that a Pick-up had driven into the rear of the vehicle but had collided with the end of the pylons rather than the vehicle. The pick-up driver, Khun Amnat aged 38, a local government worker from Chonburi was pronounced dead-at-the-
