In the early hours of Friday morning police and rescue services were called to the scene of a fatal accident which had taken place along the road running alongside the railway tracks near Soi Kow Noi in the East of Pattaya.
The accident involved two motorbikes which had collided. The deceased man, aged 60, was thrown from his bike when it was rear-ended by a motorbike ridden by an 18-year-old Thai male who suffered only minor cuts and abrasions. The teenager claimed the victim had overtaken him at speed just prior to the accident and then slowed down, leading to a collision. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, but did have a Buddhist amulet around his neck, was probably killed instantly when his head came into contact with the unforgiving asphalt.
