On Saturday 13 March a special ceremony was conducted by the Father Ray Foundation, located on Sukhumvit Road, to officially open two newly constructed houses at what is called the Father Ray Children’s Village.
Children, staff, students and many expats and locals, including Khun Ronagit, a deputy mayor of Pattaya, listened as the ceremony began with students from the School for the Blind and the Vocational School for People with Disabilities singing to the assembled guests. The singers were dressed in costumes featuring the flags of the countries of donors who had provided the funds to build the houses. These included Britain, Finland, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland and many others.
The usual speeches included presentations of certificates to those supporters who had sponsored a house, or paid for the furniture. A total of 80 children, some come from broken families, others have been abandoned and some have been abused, were then moved into two out of six new houses. The other four houses will be occupied by newer arrivals.
