On Tuesday we joined the Royal Thai Navy Narcotics Unit in Sattahip as they conducted another of their regular illegal drug investigations. The day began with the arrest of Khun Wirachart aged 26, a suspected drug dealer who was caught with 5 packets totaling 1g of Crystal Methamphetamine, known in Thailand as “Ya Ice”. A call was placed by an undercover operative who arranged to meet him in front of a school located on the Sukumvit Road. As soon as the transaction was completed, Police, with guns drawn, moved in and after a short foot pursuit and a number of warning shots fired by the officers, the arrest of Khun Wirachart took place. The suspects Girlfriend hid on the 3rd floor of the school but was soon found and arrested but was later released without charge after Police were satisfied that she was not involved in the drug transaction. The Officers intended to go as far up the chain of distribution as they could and ordered Khun Wirachart to contact his supplier Khun Sakdar aged 27, a Champion Sailor who arranged to meet him in a Hotel Room. However, Khun Sakdar suspected he was being set-up and disposed of a quantity of drugs in the toilet. Drug taking paraphernalia was found in the room and Khun Sakdar was arrested and later confessed to selling drugs. While inside the room, three people arrived to apparently purchase drugs. They were also arrested and later charged. The Navy Officers were pleased with the arrests made and vowed to continue their fight against drugs in the Sattahip area.
